Seeding and Turfing
Of all the aspects of landscaping, seeding and turfing often have the greatest impact - like the final coat of paint!
The most important part of a good lawn or sports field is the soil preparation - to guarantee a healthy lawn or pitch for years to come.
The first stage is soil cultivation. This enables the soil to be worked more easily and creates a medium suitable for a good, healthy root structure.

The next stage is to grade to the required levels. This can be done manually, or if necessary, with laser levelling equipment. This can be fitted to our standard grading frame shown below, or with the laser grading box. This allows the levels to be set to an accuracy of ±5mm. |
|
The grading process may bring stone to the surface which is not required, so the third stage is to bury this stone 6" beneath the surface using a specialist stone burying machine shown below. This not only removes any stone from the surface, it also improves the drainage and creates a tilth perfect for seed or turf. |
|
If necessary, the stone can be completely removed from site using our stone picker. This machine sifts through the top 3" of soil and collects stones bigger than 25mm. |
Seeding
|
Once the surface has been prepared the seed can then be sown with the seed drill and left to germinate. Once germinated, the grass can be left to establish with natural rainfall. If the pitch is required quickly the establishment period can be reduced by irrigation. |

Turfing
If an instant lawn or pitch is required - turf can be layed. Sports fields can be turfed using "big rolls" as seen below, smaller areas using standard small rolls.
|
The surface is prepared as for seeding above, and then the turf rolled out to leave a finished pitch. The turf must be watered correctly, and the pitch will then be ready for use in 5-6 weeks, as seen below. |
